The University of Lapland is a broadly-based, international centre for education and research located in Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle . ACADEMIC CALENDAR

The academic year at the University of Lapland is comprised of two semesters. The autumn semester is from August 1 to December 31, and the spring semester is from January 1 to July 31. The annual opening ceremony is always held on the first Monday in September. Teaching during the academic year is divided in five teaching periods.

Period 2 : 2.11. - 20.12.2009 (7 weeks)

Christmas Break 21.12.2009 - 6.1.2010

Period 3: 7.1. - 7.3.2010 (8,5 weeks)

Spring Break 8.3. - 14.3.2010

Period 4: 15.3. - 28.5.2010 (11 weeks)
Period 5: Summer Schools/possibility for monthly examinations/holiday
